Compared to existing alternatives, the various modulation, coding, acquisition and access schemes enable lower power requirements for the radio transmitter and improve the sensitivity of the radio receiver, consequently lowering the cost of terminal design and manufacture and through more efficient use of satellite capacity significantly lower the cost of delivering services.

Dynamic physical layer rate adaptation to optimise user experience within constraints of existing satellite link conditions.
Robust acquisition utilizing DSpace's Unique Pilot Symbol Sequence (UPSS) scheme.
Proprietary contention based random access schemes to optimise channel throughput and latency performance.
High performance operation in mobile and degraded channel conditions at power levels no greater than typical systems designed to function in fixed, clear channel conditions.
 
DWAM specifically defines a set of highly efficient, adaptive modulation and random access schemes designed for optimal performance in the challenging mobile environment. The DWAM software components are currently deployed on a range of DSpace modem hardware platforms:
 
DWAM User Terminal Modem - enables a user's computing device to communicate with the Internet or Corporate Network via the satellite when integrated with specific transceiver electronics suited to the satellite of interest.
DWAM Channel Units - installed at a gateway earth station the channel units provide a communications resource pool to be accessed by remote user terminals. The channel units are integrated into the network infrastructure of a satellite service provider under the control of a system gateway or hub electronics supporting the overall resource allocation, switching and management of traffic.
